A market festival is underway at Bogyoke Market to mark Water Festival. Admission is free for the five-day event from March 30 to April 3. The festival is open from 9 am to 6pm.

Lychee which is called "Hninthi" in Myanmar from Shan, Kachin and Kayah States. They are said to be good for diabetes. It costs K 120 per fruit.

Water Festival to mark Myanmar New Year is drawing near.Significance of this year event is that the holiday has been extended for ten days. Special sales are being offered at a discount in town. The city is packed with shoppers.

J's Irrawaddy Dream Restaurant and Gift Shop, which is popular among foreign visitors, has got a new name, J's Bristo and Bar. The restaurant opens at Mya Kyun Tha Garden, a new location. The gift opens on the first floor of Strand Hotel.

K.M.T has arranged a pleasure voyage by a ship to Myeik, Kaw Thaung and Thuhtay Island, southern edge of Myanmar, during Water Festival.Foreign visitors can also join the eight-day voyage which starts on April 12 to enjoy natural scenery and fresh breeze.

The second French song singing contest sponsored by French Embassy will be held on April 7. Preliminary selecting sessions will take place at Alliance Francais in Yangon and YMCA in Mandalay on March 24, 25, 26, 27 and 31 and April 1. Applications are available at K 1000 per copy. Closing date for entries is March 21. Winners will be sent to France to study. Shopping slips will also be awarded to the winners.

A singing contest for children sponsored by Sein Gay Har Mini-Market will be held from 3 to 5 o’clock in the afternoon on March 17 and 18. Five to ten year old children are eligible for the contest. Slips for shopping will be awarded to the winners.

A summer holiday yachting course will begin on March 10 under the joint-sponsorship of Myanmar Yachting Federation and Yangon Yachting Club. The ten-day course will last for ten days.

A ceremony to give away academy awards for 2005 was held at La Har Pyin Theatreof Nay Pyi Taw City Hall on March 5. Winners are as follows;
The best director : Kyi Soe Tun (Sattha Gan)
The best actor : Lu Min (Kyan Sit Min)
The best actress : Tun Eindra Bo (Moe Goke Set Wai Ko Kyaw Lon Ywae)
The best supporting actor : Chan Tha Kyi Soe (Sattha Gan)

Golden and silver pumpkins imported from Thailand. They are not to eat but to offer to the Buddha. They are gaining popularity these days.

This is noodles whiskey made of noodles from kokang region.This whiskey is produced by Mandalay Shweyi [distilleries}Co.LTD. A 700ml bottle costs K 6750. The gold colour whiskey is said to taste great.
