The movie "Nhut Khan Htat Ka Da Thwa" was on at Thamada movie theatre from yesterday. This is the first movie of vocalist Si Thu Lwin and he has sung for this movie also. Actor Kyaw Hein and actress Myo Thanda Tun play leading roles. Myo Thanda Tun has first produced this movie. The director of this movie is Kyi Pyu Shin. The theme of this movie is Platonic love between parents and their children.

A Buddha image is being carved out of a giant marble block, be found this FEB, 37 feet in length, 24 feet in width and 11 feet in height at Sakyin Village in Madaya Township near Mandalay. The finished image will be the biggest marble one in the world. It will be kept on Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township, Yangon. Arrangements to convey the image are under way.

The movie "Ma Chit Tet Thaw Mein Ma, A Chit Nget Thaw Youk Kya" was shot in only twenty days in Yangon and Bagan without any difficulty. Director are Naung Tun Lwin and Nyi Nyi Tun Lwin. Lwin Moe, Tun Tun Naing, Tun Eindra Bo, Tun Tun Win, and many actors starred in this movie.

New Mr.Guiter Cafe was opened at the back of Yangon Zoological Garden on Bo Min Gaung Road on 15th Jun. Opening hours are 7am to midnight. Dessert buffet is free of charge. Draught beer(K200 a cup) and various of cocktails are available there. Live music performance is from 19:30 to mid-night.

The final matches of Myanmar Traditional Boxing Contest were held at Thuwunna Stadium at 2pm 18th June. Naing Wun Lay beat Dawna Pan in feather-weight match. Eindu Maung Maung beat Saw The Htut in welter-weight match. Champion Shwe Du Wun beat Shan Le Thway in upper middle weight match. The winner of best boxer award was Naing Wun Lay.

There was a concert at Mr.Guiter Cafe in Yangon other day. The musicians were Nop Sotthibandhu from Thailand and pianists Bennett Lerner and Kit Young from America. They performed classic music, jazz and Myanmar music together with violinist U Tin Yi from Myanmar. Among the spectors are famous Myanmar vocalists Htoo Ein Thin, Myint Myo Aung, Lay Pyu and Zaw Win Htut.

According to a journal published here, TV programmes will be broadcast in Market in Yangon. The preparatin are being made to broadcast TV programmes installing four TV sets in Bogyoke market. Later, TV sets will be installed in Mingalar market, Nyaunpilay Plaza, Thirimingalar market in August. The programmes will be broadcast through opening hours of the markets. Drama movies and MTV programme will be broadcast. Advertisements for these programmes are being invited at the rate of K5000 per the seconds.

The basic education schools have been opened for new a academic year since June. Most students have their school uniforms mode. Most have three sets of uniforms made for schools issues three school badges. Well-to-do students buy five sets of uniform a month. Shirts are made in Thailand and Longgyi or skirts are made in Chine. Current prices is K500-1500 a set of school uniform.

Myanmar Traditional boxing matches continued at Thuwanna Stadium. "Wanchai", strongest boxer now, did not part in the match for his ill health. Shan Le Thwai knocked Shwe Saing out in upper middle weight contests. Saw The Aung knocked Thura Aung Din out in welter weight contests.

The 9th Asian Youth Under16 soccer qualifiers was held in Myanmar. Myanmar beat Guam 26-0 on 8 June, Laos 2-0 on 10 June and Malaysia 2-1 on 12 June. Myanmar goes to final match will be held in Vietnam.

Mangosteens and rambutans came into season recently. They are rather cheap as usual. One mangosteen costs K8 to 15 only. A bunch of rambutan (nearly 100) costs K400-600. The price changes according to size. A durian also cheap in this term. A piece of durian costs from K100.

There was an earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richer scale at 01:03:14 on 11/JUN. Epicenter was the suburb of Yangon, 10.5 miles away from Kaba Aye Meteorological center. The building in China Town where I live trembled a little.

Yangon Zoo run by Ministry of Forest will be handed over to private entrepreneurs. There will be plans to renovate in near future.

According to a magazine published here, The construction of atennas for Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) is hoped to be finished in the middle of June. The test run of 2000 phones will be able to lanch at the end of June. Later about 20,000 telephone will be comissioned into service in the middle of July. There is a plan to sell 70,000 phone in Yangon in the near future. The GSM will be interoduced rather late in Mandalay.

According to a Journal, there was a discussion between Myanmar government and Singapore Technology Industry Corporation (STIC) on construction of New Internationl Airport near Bago. STIC, first built Summit Parkview Hotel in construction sector in Myanmar. Italian and Thai company won the contract to built Mandalay International Airport. So STIC seems to try to get this contract.

Karaoke lounges are in vogue in Yangon and Mandalay. Beauty saloon with Karaoke also came up in Yangon. In Mandalay, they charge K25 a song. In Yangon, it costs K50 to sing a song.

Kyaw Hein, a star of screen, was tonsured for acted as a monk in a movie by the name of "Mawha Mhin Pyine Mya. He will really join holy order for the time being in Mandalay after the shooting of this movie.

Myanmar traditional boxing special tournament has been held at National Stadium-1, Thuwanna since 3rd June. Famous boxers like Wan Chai, Shwe Duwan, Saw The Htoo adn etc.. from all over the country are participating in this tournament. Nine champions will be chosen. The games will be held 3,4,11,13,17,18 / Jun. 18/Jun is final.

The songs that appeared in "Mong Mu Pai Shin", a famous movie, were compilted into a cassette tape in memory of director U San Aung. His photograph appears on the cover of the cassette tape. There is a song written by himself. The vocalists are Dwe, Si Thu Lwin, Alex and Cho Pyone. The striking fact is that it is rare for songs in Myanmar movies to come out as a tape.

The most popular sports is football in Myanmar. Myanmar TV has been broadcasting Premier League (England) weekly. The program pamphlets of EURO2000 are on sale in Yangon. Some hotels have a plan to broadcast it on live.

Today, all the schools starts a new term all across Myanmar. There will be a lot of traffic jams for many famous schools will use a lot of buses and cars to ferry the students to and from schools.
