Water report. Some places have got over shortage.

There has been water shortage in the heart of Yangon City for two days. It was said that the water pump was out of order. Many people had to line up for water in the evenings. We had not got water yet. Price of drinking water is going up now.

It rained a little today. It is very rare in this time of a year. We could see durians being sold in China Town. This means that summer will come soon here.

E-mail service will be back to Myanmar. Government provider (Myanmar Post & Communications will control it.) Private companies will be allowed to use it. But private users will not be allowed. Many companies have applied for it because it is cheaper than last time. It will take a few weeks to get permission to use. For permission it will cost you US$ 230. Annual fee is US$60. For an hour it will cost US$3.

On 27/FEB/2000, there will be a stage at the friendly gathering between Japan and Myanmar at Hotel Equatorial. Myanmar vocalists, Sai Htei Saing, Tin Zar Maw, Thin J Mg Mg, Kabyar Bwe Mu and Japan vocalists, Mikio Harada, Reido Fujimura and Maki will be present. Starting from 6/Mar/2000, a joint venture media company formed by a Myanmar firm and an Australian-owned media group will publish an English weekly journal in Myanmar. The new publication, 'The Myanmar Time's will be the first international publication in Myanmar to be distributed 30,000 copies both inside and outside the country.

U Myat Lay, a famous Myanmar actor, passed away last night. He died of liver cancer at the age of 72.

Today is full moon day of Tabotwe (February). People offer the Thammmanae (a snack made of sticky rice) to Lord Buddha at pagodas in the morning. They gave the snack each other their neighbors.

Summer might have come in Yangon. It is very hot in daytime. A little cool in early morning and late evening. So, you'd better to bring a warm cloth.

Myanmar Government restricted seat of Thai Airways December. Thai Airways might not manage to tackle the problem some tourists found it difficult to come to Yangon because of crowded passengers in Thai Airways flight to Myanmar. Numerous reservations had to be canceled at hotel. So if you are coming here by Thai Airways, please take this matter into account.

Nowadays, Valentine's Day celebration is in vogue among young people in Myanmar. They give chocolate, roses, postcards each other as taken of love. Within a year it became more popular. Some restaurant and shop offer special rates for young couples on that day.

The 53rd Anniversary Union Day celebration will be held at Peoples Park in Yangon on 12 Feb 2000. Small Myanmar flags are being flown on the buses in Yangon. The authorities might have asked them to do so.

Tourist Visa fees has been increase (from 18 US$ to US$20) by announcement of Ministry of Hotel and Tourism.

I saw some octopus were in market in Yangon this morning. I have not seen them for four years. Especially, sea fish are very cheap in Yangon. A 30cm octopus costs K 100 (0.3 US$) a 40cm sea bream K 100 and a 30cm flat -fish K 100.

All Nippon Airways will can off its flights to Myanmar starting form 24th March. But the Airways office will remain open.

According to official papers, Yangon-Sittway motor road had been finished. So you can go from Yangon to Sittway by car. Yangon- Kawthaung road is going to be constructed. And it will finished in 2001.

Chinese New Year will be from 4th Feb. to 6th Feb. Chinese Shop will close during celebration. Many shops in Chinatown are preparing to sell things for New Year celebration.
