Yangon Madam? Daily Life Struggles --Shopping Part 2--

On a certain Sunday evening, my husband & I who have a clever judgment about sales went out for a walk together along the market stalls of China Town. While walking, we came across a meat shop & came near the place. My husband stood near the table on which meats were placed.

"We've not eaten meats recently," said my husband. Then he examined the colors of meats. I was standing beside my husband.

I thought at my husband would not buy the meat. I told him that I could not hide my mental discomforts. Because everyday I go shopping I have to pass the meat shop. But I didn't buy meat on purpose. The reason is that the meat was not fresh.

The time to go to market was from 9 am to 10 am. Thinking that the early meat would be fresh, but the shop owner kept on touching the meat when he had nothing to do. So by the heat of touching, the meat became worse quickly.

The meat was selling in the environments of swarms of flies, rising particles of dust and vaporous of petrol. Hence, fresh meat would turn into inferior one. For that reason, we avoided buying it intentionally.

The meat I was looking at was becoming worse. That evening was still hot. And the meat had been roasted under the sun. So its colors had faded. The part that contained fat discolored and began to change liquid. Accordingly, the stand on which the meat placed was oily & bright. My husband neglected me who was disappointed to see the meat. "Let's buy the meat!" he said. I suspected that whether he said like that was a good intention or not. "Let cook the pork with ginger for our dinner," has continued. He decided the meat for dinner.

"Oh! What! Do you want to try that pork with ginger? We'd better throw it away. Instead, you want to try the meat. So how can we try that bad one?" I explained.

But there seemed to be a dish of pork & ginger in his mind. Unable to explain about it, we had to buy the meat as an experiment. At the meat shop, it seemed to weigh all the meats. My husband had nothing but pork and ginger in his mind.

On our way back home, he was murmuring a tune in joy. "Pork & ginger try!"

On arriving home, I put the meat in the kitchen. We smelled a disgusting smell. The smell was a kind of stench. The stench was giving off from the meat. I called my husband and made him sniff the meat.

"Oh! What a bad smell!" said my husband. So saying he stepped back.

It was so fetid that we'd better throw it away. Now that we had bought it, we decided to cook it with condiment for giving taste to the meat. I was completely absorbed in preparing the meat, inevitably breathing in such a strong smell. I thought the smell would diminish if the meat had been mixed with ginger & fish sauce. I did so but it had still been the strong & fetid smell. Then I put garlic in the pork dish to destroy germs.

While trying the pork dish, the earlier strong smell diminished and it then game off a fragrant small.

"Oh! What a sweet smell, now! I will not lose my appetite tonight," said my husband with joy.

"So! You have been losing your appetite usually"! I said sarcastically but I approved of the sweet appetizing smell.

I had to control my desire for this meat while it had been cooled down. Then we put pieces of meat into our months. " Hmm!" "???" in our thoughts. At the same time we stopped chewing them. They had become appetizing smells and pervaded through our months. But we could not surely say what the taste was. The pieces of meat went down into our stomachs through our throats. However we were late to vomit them facing each other. At last the meat went into the trashcan. Because we couldn't eat them all. Since then, we avoided facing the meat shop while walking along China Town. Moreover, we have got lesson. "Could we prepare and cook meat for our daily meals?
